Closure Systems International mini™ closures selected by major German brewer
INDIANAPOLIS, USA - Designed to deliver reduced packaging material while enhancing brand imagery and ease of opening, Closure Systems International’s new MB-Lok mini™ beer closures have been selected by Frankfurter Brauhaus for their next generation PET beer packaging. Frankfurter Brauhaus is a large and respected German brewer with a 400-year tradition of brewing excellence and innovation.
The new package is much lighter weight with over 20% material savings in the threaded bottle finish area of the package. Utilizing a shorter and lighter-weight bottle finish and CSI’s MB-Lok mini™ closure, the sleek new beer package represents a major step forward to reduce packaging materials and to improve sustainability. In addition, the mini™ closure was designed to help Frankfurter Brauhaus build brand equity. Its’ classic profile, combined with its’ easy to grip knurl pattern will delight consumers. MB-Lok mini incorporates CSI’s “Sure Grip” knurl, specifically designed for ease of opening and consumer satisfaction” commented Siegfried Landskrone, CSI Europe Commercial Director. “Consumers benefit from the classic appearance and ease of opening of the closure. Both consumers and the environment will benefit from the reduced gram weight of the packaging,” added Landskrone. “After carefully reviewing all available options, CSI provided the best combination of quality, performance, cost savings, technical expertise, and ease of conversion. We are very pleased to have been selected as a key development partner for this next generation package design.” CSI’s mini™ closure is a proven performer in the beverage industry, with over 1.5 billion pieces sold to date to major bottlers all over the world. “While other manufacturers are making future promises, CSI is delivering significant savings to our customers today,” stated Juanjo Martinez, Global Marketing Manager. The MB-Lok mini™ closure is a lightweight, two-piece design that significantly contributes to reducing the overall cost of bottling. When applied to either PCO 1873 or PCO 1881 short-height bottle finishes, PET bottle finish weight is reduced while maintaining all the same performance parameters as existing bottle finishes. On the inside, the new closure design integrates CSI’s high performance XT™ oxygen-scavenging liner which maximizes seal integrity and product freshness under all environmental conditions. The versatile MB-Lok mini™ closure effectively and safely seals beer in PET packaging up to 3 liters in volume. The MB-Lok mini™ closure also delivers superior application performance in bottling operations, which means improved uptime and higher throughput for bottlers. In fact, CSI’s mini closures have been running almost flawlessly for over a year on very high speed bottling lines (950 bpm). Finally, using CSI’s “quick-change” capper conversion kit, mini™ closures can be easily integrated into existing bottling lines, which contributes to increased line uptime when switching between short height and standard size closures. CSI’s mini™ closure family provides a wide range of closures solutions for PCO 1881 and PCO 1873 and includes both lined and linerless closures for carbonated soft drinks, bottled water, non-carbonated beverages and beer.
