Alcoa CSI Receives the National Quality Award 2005 in Chile
Announced in January, the Award recognizes companies that stand out for their management.
Alcoa CSI of Chile recently received the National Quality Award 2005, organized by Centro Nacional de Productividad y Calidad do Chile, also known as ChileCalidad, which has been held since 1996. According to Guilherme Miranda, Alcoa South America CSI general manager, the National Quality Award reflects the effort of all employees of the Chilean unit to improve global management processes and to establish the best standards of excellence in the company. After the decision of competing for the award was made, several work teams were formed to prepare the required documents. The commitment of all ensured that the material with Alcoa’s case was delivered on time. The assessors visited the Company in December and expectations were strong until the result was announced. “Each person that participated in the preparation of this document is a winner, for the effort, commitment, devotions and companionship devoted to such an extensive work”, said Miguel Martinez, Alcoa CSI Chile general manager. The award was added to other awards already granted to Alcoa CSI Chile. Last year, the company was appointed as the 7th Best Company to work for in Chile, in a survey conducted by Great Place to Work Institute (International Consulting firm specialized in assessing the quality of life of employees in the environment). It was also granted the award Ambiente Laboral Libre de Humo de Tobaco (2005) and Lugar Laboral Saludable, among other awards. The Award Internationally recognized, the Chile National Quality Award was created by a decree from the Ministry of Economics and is based on the Malcolm Baldrige model, a system widely used in the United States to benchmark business performance. The purpose is to recognize Chilean companies and organizations that show excellence in their management, compared to international companies, by aspects that involve awareness, understanding, dissemination and cultural changes. ChileCalidad is an entity formed by representatives from the Central Unitaria de Trabajadores (CUT), Confederacion de La Produccion y del Comercio (CPC) and members of the Ministries of Economics, Labor and Corporacion de Fomento de la Produccion (Corfo), and is chaired by Jorge Rodrigues Grossi, Minister of Economics in Chile.
